WebHCTZ is a thiazide class anti-hypertensive medication. It works in the kidney at the distal convoluted tubule by reducing sodium (Na+) reabsorption. Since it decreases the reabsorption of Na + you eliminate more of it in the urine. Water follows sodium in the body so HCTZ decreases intravascular volume by increasing urine production.
